Rate the Companies

In the previous assignment you went to the AT&T website to price out a phone. Most of you have heard of AT&T before, but there are many companies that operate on the internet. Some companies you may have heard of before, and some you might have not. How do you know which ones you can trust, and which ones you can’t? For Part 2, your assignment is to research six companies to determine if they can be trusted with your money. Each of these stores represents a purchase you might need to make some day.

Companies You Will Be Researching (you will research a total of 6 companies)

· AcademicSuperstore – discount software for students

· Ipodjuice – replacement batteries for electronics

· TigerDirect – electronics retailer

· 3 additional websites of your choice

Directions

Make a Spreadsheet

1. Log into your Gmail and create a spreadsheet in Google Drive. Label the first six columns as follows: Retailer name, Retailer Web Address (URL), Retailer Rating, Good Things, Bad Things, and My Rating (see example below).

2. Go to http://www.resellerratings.com/ and look at the ratings and information about

the 6 retailers listed above.

3. Research the web sites & record your findings.

4. Enter data from resellerratings.com into the first three columns.

5. Read some ratings for each of your companies and summarize the good things you read about them, and then some bad things about the company people have posted.

**Make sure that when you are reading a negative review it makes sense and the company in question is most likely at fault. Some issues people complain about have nothing to do with the company (strange but true).

6. In the last column, rank the companies 1-10. 1 being the best or the most trustworthy and 10 for the worst or least trustworthy based on your reading the summaries that others have posted online.

7. When you have completed your spreadsheet, you will need to post your spreadsheet to your 8th Grade Portfolio. To do this, follow the directions below.
