Autobiography

In this assignment you will take some time to think and write about a VERY special and important person... YOU :)

Objectives

· Students will be able to create a multimedia project using Microsoft Word Glogster and Voice Thread

· Students will be able to create a Glog

Step 1: Microsoft Word

In Microsoft Word, you will be typing a 7 paragraph autobiography that will be posted in the About Me Section on your Electronic Portfolio.

Have fun with this assignment and write your Autobiography as if you were actually going to "speak" it... because in step 3 that's exactly what you will be doing!

Be sure to check your paper for spelling and grammar errors and make sure you indent each paragraph.

Title: All About _______________ (your name- Do NOT use your last name)

Introduction

  • Introduce Yourself: your first, middle (if you have a middle name) & last initial (if you choose).

  • Your birthday (and age if you'd like)

  • Where you were born

  • List any fun facts about yourself

  • Do you have any role models? If so, who?

Family

  • Who do you live with?

  • The names of who you live with.

  • How they are related to you for everyone: ex. mother, father, sister, brother, grandfather, grandmother, aunt, uncle, cousin, etc.

  • Say you are an only child if you don't have any brothers or sisters.

  • Do you have any pets?

Favorites

  • What are some of your favorites?

  • For example: Fill in the blanks --> My favorite _______ is ______ because ________________________

  • Topics can include: color, place, TV show, movie, day, relative, activity, video game, sport, subject, etc...

  • Example: My favorite charity is UNICEF because it helps children around the world.

Sports & Chores

  • List the sports you play (or exercises you do) [Phys. Ed. stuff, not motorized or animals]or sports that you just enjoy.

  • List any chores (or jobs) you have done or currently do.

Hobbies and Activities

  • Imagine it is a blizzard outside, or thunderstorming outside... What do you do inside for fun? Hobbies?

  • List three hobbies you do inside your home

  • Think about anything else you do for fun that isn't a sport or an inside the house activity.

  • List three activities you do outside your home

Goals

  • What’s your favorite subject?

  • Tell us about four goals you have for yourself:

    • What is a goal for your report card or your grades for this school year?

    • What is a goal for your grades or classes before you graduate from high school?

    • What goal, not about your classes, do you have for this year?

    • What goal, not about your classes, do you have before you graduate from high school?

Career Interests

  • What do you want to be when you grow up?

  • Describe two careers that interest you and why?

ex. Teaching interests me because I like helping young people to learn new things.

Step 2: Locating Pictures

Use the internet to locate (at least) 8 pictures and/or images that could be used to represent the title and each paragraph of your autobiography. When you find a picture that you like do the following:

  • Right Click on the Picture/Image

  • Select Save Picture and save the picture to your My Pictures Folder (be sure to give your picture a name).

Step 3:Glogster

Go to Glogster. If you already have a Glogster account please log in. If you do not have a Glogster account, follow the directions below.

Before you begin creating your Autobiography Glog you MUST register for a new account in Glogster. To do this go to

Creating A Glog

After you create your Glogster account you will be putting information about your Autobiography story you just created into your Glog.

  • Click on Post New Glog and select the Glog Format you want to begin creating your Glog

  • Click on Wall to create an eye appealing background for your Glog

  • Click on the Text button, choose the text box you like the best and then copy and paste your Autobiography into the text boxs you choose (You will have one text box for your title and each paragraph you wrote for a total of 8 text boxes).

You are going to have to edit your text (size, font, style, etc.) to make it fit.

  • Images and/or Graphics: Decorate your Glog with graphics by clicking on Graphics. You may also add images by clicking on Images and Upload the images you saved to you’re My Pictures folder.

  • Reformat your graphis and/or images to make your Glog look great!

  • When your Glog is complete click on Save or Publish to publish your Glog! (Make sure you give your Glog a title)

Sharing Your Glog

When your Glog is complete, you MUST share your Glog with me. To do this:

    • Click Save and Share

    • Give your Glog a title (such as Autobiography)

    • Make sure Public (in bottom left corner) is selected and then click Save & Publish

    • Click Save & Share

    • Copy the Share Address (your Glog's URL)

    • Log into your Gmail Account

    • Click on Compose Mail (on the left side)

    • In the To box type in my email address: maurusja@d7.k12.mi.us

    • In the Subject box type in your first and last name and Autobiography Glog (i.e. John Doe Autobiography Glog)

    • Paste your Glog's URL into the body of your email (CTRL +V)

    • Click Send

This is the ONLY way you will receive a grade for your Autobiography Glog

Saving Your Glog to Your Electronic Portfolio

  • Copy the URL of your Glog

  • Open up your Google Site web page

  • Click on Edit Sidebar (on left side of page)

  • Select Edit

  • Click on Add URL

  • Text to Display: Signifcant Event Glog

  • URL or Email: Paste the URL link to your Glog (CTRL +V)

  • Click on Ok, OK, and Save

Step 4: Voice Thread

Go to Voice Thread

Select: Sign in or register

Select: Register (If you already have a VoiceThread Account please Log In)

Complete the registration form. Be sure to write down your username and password (I recommend you using your student Id as your password)

If you do NOT have an email address: Please type your first and last name (without a space) @gmail.com. This is not an actual email, but this will serve it's purpose for this site.

Once you create your account, do the following:

  • Select Create on the top toolbar

    • 1. Upload-> Computer and begin uploading the 8 pictures that you recently saved to your My Pictures Folder.

  • 2. Comment: Select Comment.

  • Click on the picture that is showing on your screen and select Comment.

  • You will then plug in a microphone and choose the Record button.

  • With your Autobiography printed out and in front of you, you will begin reading and recording your story. You will record your title and a paragraph for each part of your autobiographyfor each picture you uploaded. **Make sure you plan out what parts of your Autobiography you will read for each picture in advance.** Use the arrow button to advance to the next picture.

  • When you are done, click on 3. Share.

  • Add the title Autobiography or All About Me to your Voice Thread and then click Save

MAKE SURE YOU INVITE ME TO BE YOUR FRIEND SO THAT I AM ABLE TO VIEW AND GRADE YOUR VOICE THREAD!

To Do This:

  • On the very last slide in your Voice Thread click on Invite Your Friends

  • Click Add +

  • In the email box type in my email address: maurusja@d7.k12.mi.us

  • Under Name type YOUR first AND last name

  • In Tag type in your hour (Example: 5hr)

  • Click on Add

  • Be Sure to Click on the Eye, Comment Box AND Pencil

  • Click Send Invite

Adding Your Voice Thread to Your Electronic Portfolio

  • The very last box in your Voice Thread gives you tons of options. Click on the last box and select Copy Link and Share.

  • Go back to your Google Sites page and click on Edit Sidebar

  • Click on Edit again

  • Click on Add URL

  • In Text to Display type in Autobiography Voice Thread

  • Right click and paste your Voice Thread URL in the box titled URL
