Step 1: Quizlet: Elements of Photography Composition Research

Quizlet is a web based, interactive flashcard creator.

  • Go to Quizlet and click on Sign Up in the upper right corner and create an account. Make sure you write down your username and password so that you don’t forget it.

  • On the top of the page click on Create Set

  • Set Title: Elements of Photography

Subject: Photography & Video Yearbook

  • Underneath Enter Your Flash Cards, choose the language English for both the right and left side.

  • You will now use the following 10 Elements of Photography that you will create a flash card for.

1) Rule of Thirds

2) Lines

3) Viewpoint/Vantage Point

4) Framing

5) Texture

6) Balance/Symmetry

7) Patterns

8) Depth of Field

9) Fill the Frame

10) Shapes

  • On the left side you will type one of the photography elements and on the right side you will type out the definition for each element of photograph. You will be researching the internet to locate the definition for each element of photography. You MUST put the definitions in your own words. DO NOT just copy and past each definition from the internet.

  • Once you have your 10 photography elements defined, click on Create Set.

  • Once you create your interactive flashcard set, check out some of the ways that you can Study and Play Games to learn the vocabulary and information that you used to create your flash card set.

  • After you create your flashcard set, copy the URL to your Quizlet Flashcard Link and add it to your Weebly Website sidebar.

Sharing Your Quizlet With Mrs. Maurus

· Using the same link that you copied for your Weebly website, Compose an email using your Gmail Account pasting this link into the body of your email. Send this email to Mrs. Maurus at maurusja@d7.k12.mi.us. In the subject field type your name and the words Quizlet.

You MUST email Mrs. Maurus yourQuizlet Review in order to get a grade for it.

Step 2: Locating Photos to Represent the

Elements of Photography Composition

· Using the internet and/or the resources below, locate one excellent example of each of the 10 elements of photography. Save each of the 10 photograph examples to you’re My Pictures Folder. You will also need to locate a picture to represent your title. Find a title image and save that to your My Pictures folder. Make sure you label what element each photo represents AND save the URL to that photo too. You will have 11 pictures total.

Step 3: Taking Actual Photos That Represent the Ten Elements of Photography

· Using what you learned about each of the ten elements of photography, you will now go out into the real world and t take pictures of people and objects that will be used to represent each of the ten elements. You will need to edit and save these pictures in order to use the pictures in the next step.

Step 4: Creating a Presentation of Your Research Using Kioza

  • Go to the Kioza website

  • Click on Get Started and then Sign Up for your own account, if you have already created an account Log In to your account.** Make sure you write your username and password down so that you don’t forget it.

  • Once you are logged in, in the upper right corner click on +New and upload the 11 pictures that you saved to your My Pictures folder in Step 2.

  • After your photos have uploaded, click on the Slideshow Maker tab on the top of the page and select a Template or choose to create your presentation From Scratch.

  • Start dragging each of your photos down to the presentation strip to place them into your slide show.

  • Your title slide should read Elements of Photography By Your Name

Presentation Requirements

Each slide in your presentation should have the following requirements:

  • The element title

  • The definition of the element

  • An excellent photograph to represent each element

  • An edited photo that YOU have taken to represent each of the ten elements.

  • Transitions, Effects, Animations and Music (if you choose).

  • Feel free to set the Parameter Settings too.

When You Have Completed All of the Requirements

Once you have completed all of the requirements:

  • Play your slideshow to make sure you have all of the requirements AND make sure that your presentation is free of spelling and grammar errors.

  • After you have checked over your entire presentation, click Save

  • Title your presentation Elements of Photography and click Save

Sharing Your Presentation

  • Click on Share By Email

  • Type your First Name AND Last Name

  • In the To field, type Mrs. Maurus' email address: maurusja@d7.k12.mi.us

Linking Your Presentation to Your Weebly

  • Select My Slide Shows tab on the top of the page

  • Click on your Elements of Photography slideshow

  • Click on Add to Blog, at the bottom of the page

  • Copy the HTTP link

  • Log into your Weebly and click on Edit

  • Select Pages and click on Add Page->External Link

  • Page Name: Elements of Photography

  • External Link: Paste the HTTP link to your presentation here.

  • Click on Save & Edit

  • Click on Publish
