Useful Tools in Docs That Will Make Your Life Easier

1.      Research Tool

·    Click on the Explore icon (bottom right) 

·  The Research Panel will appear on the right-hand side. Start a search by typing into the search bar.

· You can narrow your search to specific types of results (e.g. images, quotations) by using the drop-down menu in the search bar.

· When researching Images, you are able to drag and drop the images right into your document or presentation.

 

2.    Add-Ons

· In your Google Document, click on Extensions ->Add-Ons on the toolbar and select Get Add-ons.

· Once on the Add-On page, locate the following Add-Ons:

Extensis Fonts 

Doc Tools

 Easy Accents

 Fun Text                 

 Goophy

           Magic Rainbow Unicorns


3.    Keyboard Shortcuts

In Google Drive, there is no right clicking!!!! In order to perform certain functions such as copying and pasting you must use keystrokes on your keyboard.

·         Select All-> CTRL+A

·         Copy->CTRL+C

·         Paste->CTRL+V

·         Cut-> CTRL+X

·         Undo-> CTRL+Z

·         Redo-> CTRL+Y

·         Print-> CTRL+P



4.    Collaboration

One of the coolest features of Google Drive is it’s ability to let you collaborate and share with others the things you are working on in Google Drive. To Share a project with others, click on Share in the upper right corner and type in the email address of the person you want to share it with. If you wish to collaborate with someone on a project you shared, make sure you also change the setting to Can Edit.  Your partner can then log into their Google Drive and work on the same project with you.

 

Assignment

Using what you learned above, follow the step-by-step instructions below.

1. Create a new Google Document.

2. Give your new Google Doc the title Cool Tools then click on File->Page Set Up and under Orientation select Landscape, then (while in Page Set Up), change the Page Color. Click OK. 

3. Click on Extensions -> Extensis Fonts and use one of the new, Super Cool fonts to type your FIRST name and format it. Make your name large in size (i.e. font size) THEN select (CTRL +A) your name, go to Extensions->Magic Rainbow Unicorns and change the color of the text of your name.

4. Open a new tab, research and find 2 pictures of things you like or things that represent you.

5. Once you find an appropriate image that is a good representation of you, drag, drop and format (Wrap Text) it in your document.  

6. Now Google search the meaning of your name.

7.  Once you find the meaning of your name highlight the meaning and copy it using the keystroke CTRL+C and then paste it using the keystrokes CTRL+V into your document.

8. Click on Insert-> Drawing-> New, once the drawing tablet loads, click on the Shape tool. Create a diagram of shapes listing at least 5 (appropriate)  adjectives that could be used to describe you. Make sure each shape is a different color and the text inside of each shape a different color and font style and size, then click Save and Close.

9. Click on  Extensions-> Goophy and add 3 GIFs that could be used to represent 3 additional things about you and/or things you enjoy doing. You may also use Tools-> Explore->Images and insert images that way.

10.  LIST 10 (appropriate) things you cannot live without (see example below). Click on Extensions->Add-ons->Doc Tools. Select your entire list and using Doc Tools, Highlight your list and then Sort your list into ABC (A->Z) Order. **DO NOT NUMBER YOUR LIST!!!

11. Once you are finished, Share your document with me by clicking on Share (upper right corner).

12. Where it says Enter names or email addresses, type in my email address (maurusja@dhsd7.net) and click done.
