Think about creating modular content. This means its better to record 10 short videos than 1 really long one
Write the topics out like you would a document. Use headings and sub-headings
Have a loose script
Practice once before you record.
Keep it short.
You don't always have to speak if your actions are self-explanatory. This will help you get stuff done faster.
Record a live training session but ONLY to use as your script or to create your script
There are various tools for recording screen but all of them come with overheads. The best tools have now moved online and they are quick and easy to use. The downside is that you can't really edit them nicely. But its better to build content fast rather than focus on how beautiful it is. Vimeo is one of many online screen record tools.
Login to Vimeo with our vimeo login. The password can be found in our shared passwords document.
Install the screen record extension for chrome
The extension allows you to record - you and screen, you only, or screen only and you can turn sound on and off
Happy recording
Here is a short video of how this works :)
The best way to publish your videos is along-side bullet point explanations of the actions that you will explain
Usually in the wiki as a wiki page
It is best to use the video as the intro or supplement to a readable step by step guide with screenshots.
If the topic is complex and would take forever to explain as step-by-step then use only video and short bullet points.
Here's an example of a pure video based wiki page: Scan Processing
Step 1: After recording your video go to the contents page and find your video
Step 2: Click the copy link button and use the copy embed code option
Step 3: In your wiki page insert an embed element
Step 4: Paste the code from vimeo. you will need to change the size part of the code from px to 100%. See code example below.
