Modelling HOD, Studio Managers and Modelling Producer to proactively look for new Freelance Modellers to fulfil current and upcoming modelling demand in the department.
Behance, 3DSky, CGMood, 3D Export, LinkedIn are key places to look out.
Potential Modellers to be contacted via email; contact details, portfolio, ratings and other details to be added in the Resource Spreadsheet - Modelling Tab.
We only want the best freelancers!
Modelling Producer does introduction to the freelancer - who we are, what we need, usual pricing card, modeling guide. Then an NDA is signed from both sides (involve Accounting in this - Lucinda Rosson). Then a private MS Teams channel is created by Modelling Producer and we crack on.
Modelling Producer creates g-Drive Folder for the prospect candidate along with a sheet, where briefs live, a studio we usually use for renders, invoice template, etc.
Modelling Producer sends a few easy paid tasks to test out the skill and build trust with the freelancer. Explains the brief sheet, file templates which are uploaded from us to freelancers, discussing feedback, estimations, budget.
Versions of models are updated from freelancers in g-Drive folder and synced with our server by Modelling Producer.
Once a task is estimated, budgeted and briefed Modelling Producer to update freelance tracker sheet and update events, tasks, statuses, Gannt chart in ftrack.
When a task is approved freelancer needs to send an invoice to Accounting. A PO number is needed from the freelancer tracker sheet.
Modelling Producer to download all up-to-date files from g-Drive folder and update previews, statuses in ftrack and relink maps in Connector, so the model could be used by internal personel.
Note: By the end of the Introduction Process each Modelling Freelancer has their own Google Drive Folder and respective Google Sheet Brief, where upcoming briefs will be added in separate tabs.
Once we get passed the easy models and we trust the freelancer, we can continue with more complex tasks like mattresses or sofa ranges or bedding simulations, etc.
Try to get as much work as possible to the freelancers in order to keep their engagement up. Regular gig from VM builds more and more trust.
Modelling HOD to feed any potential improvements to the process in MS Teams channel with freelancers. Most of them do tend to NOT read the modeling guide and in the beginning (first few jobs) they to mistakes that we need to communicate clearly are not desired.
Modelling Producer to sign off models as approved according to f-track statuses (approved by QC, Producers, Modelling HOD).
IMPORTANT NOTE - Succession rate is around 2 % - when you manage to contact someone, get NDA signed, introduce him/her to our processes and do get work complete and we are happy with it. But those 2 % are actually the ones we can count on, so don't get blue by the slim chance - it works!
Once Onboarding Process has been completed, the Modelling Freelancer is set-up and ready to be briefed on real life projects. For details on 'How to Brief a Modelling Freelancer' please visit Modelling Freelancer Brief Process.
