Publishing Generic Assets from a Completed Project
A ftrack task is created by the Modeling Producer with information about which project needs to be organized and additional notes from the stylist team or Modeling HoD if needed.
Review steps for Asset Update and External Assets
Styleboards review - all the information about the lifestyle sets if here - links to products and props. They are usually located in the
P:\<Project>\00_BRIEF\01_STYLEBOARD\01_INDIVIDUAL SB. There are 3 types of models located there - Library, Modeled for the project and External
2. Lifestyle final images review - they are usually located here:
P:\<Project_name>\02_2D_PRODUCTION\SC0*_<Scene_name>\04_FINALS
3. Modeling review - previews which can be found in the latest versions uploaded in ftrack as well as in the individual folders of the models. The model paths are located in the model path tab of the modeling task.
Library - models that are published in Connecter need to be double checked for missing, out of date or low resolution previews as well as missing descriptions. Additional previews or versions of the prop/product may be added. If problems are found with the library asset it needs to be resaved with the latest naming convensions and file directories. You can review it HERE.
Modeled props/products- need to double check and compare lifestyle images and modeling previews and if there's a noticeable difference (the models have been changed in the lifestyle set) then they need to be updated- resaved from the lifestyle scene to the invidual modeling files. New previews need to be rendered and uploaded in Connecter. Before the model is resaved please put the previous version in the _OLD folder. If the changes are only small color corrections which may have been done in postproduction or are due to the different lighting then the model doesn't need to be resaved. The Maps folder needs to be updated as well if needed. Any unpublished models in Asset Build folder of the project need to be published. If the Asset Build folder is not with the proper naming convention (old project) then the model need to be updated and saved in a new folder with the latest naming conventions. You can review it HERE.
External - all the files that were downloaded from different websites and used in the lifestyle sets also need to be saved in the R drive where all the models live. They need to be Save Selected out of the lifestyle scenes. The naming convention of the folders and files is the same as the models done internally. You can review it HERE.
Generic Asset File Organization
Organizing generic asset after it's being saved out from a scene and preparing it for Library Submit script.
Ungroup asset if it is grouped.
Collapse all modifiers except Turbosmooth/OpenSubdiv. If there's a a UVW map above Turbosmooth/OpenSubdiv you can leave it as it is.
3. Reset XForm all parts of the model and collapse it by leaving Turbosmooth/OpenSubdiv and UVW map modifiers on.
4. If the faces of the model are with inverted normals they need to be flipped back to their proper state.
5. After all the parts are clean the parts need to be grouped and named accordingly. The Group is then put in a layer with the same name.
6. Rotate asset so its front to back axis lies along the Y axis in 3ds Max world space in such a way that you see its front side from the front view.
7. All the empty layers in the scene need to be removed.Â
8. All the parts need to be renamed according to the Group's name.
9. Start Submission Helper script and click Clean Mat. Editor.
10. Under Generic Asset Placement choose the appropriate placement.
11. (Optional) If the asset is not animated, press the Clean Anim. Layers button to clean the animation layers.
12. The model needs to be checked for missing maps using Relink Bitmaps script.
13. Collect all the maps of the model to the appropriate MAPS folder of the model and update the paths.
14. (Optional) Finetune pivot point placement for objects like lamps that have a specific mounting point.
15. After the asset has been organized it's ready for the Library Submit script. You can review the process HERE.
