Sash windows slide to open . The lower panel always slides upwards over the upper panel and is held in place via the outer wood frame.
Details can have a variety of finishes, chrome, brass , steel etc but are generally matched for a more considered look . Check the window reference on the style board but unless the finish is specifically stated, confirm this with the stylist to be sure.
One side is fixed to the lower edge of the upper frame, and the other side is fixed to the upper edge of the lower frame. The Latch then bridges the gap between the two frames effectively locking the window.
These latches/ locks are normally fixed to the centre of the window. Wider windows may present two locks and in this case they are evenly spaced to either side for additional security.
This small detail is fixed to the upper frame of the window, it effectively stops the window from opening too far by blocking the lower frame at a certain height.
Two of these lifts are fixed evenly across the lower frame of the window. These function as handles to lift the window open.

Window Shutters are a frame filled either with angled slats (louvres) or with a solid panel. Often hinged together to cover larger windows, they can be folded back away from the window, or the louvres can be opened or closed. These can also just be fitted to the lower part of the window to maintain privacy while letting light in through the clear top part of the window.
Window shutters can be made from wood, MDF or vinyl, dependent on the style, and in a range of colours.
Jamb extensions are an interior window feature which allows your frame to fit window openings of varying depths. By extending the window jambs to the precise length required, your window is able to sit flush with your interior wall.
This can also be used to create a contemporary window seat.
Glazing selection is also critical to getting the right reflections and thickness to match your building style and window type. Newer builds tend to have double or triple glazing. Older window styles tend to have single glazing.
One big window feature often ignored in 3D is window thickness and what you see outside the wall. You must always consider wall thickness and how thick the window frame is compared to the overall thickness of the wall.
Refer to British standards for Wall thickness.
Adding a panel to a window sill would overhang like the image to the left. Due to wall thickness, all windows should have some form of ledge, unless full height or if the framing of the window is thicker than normal.
