Carpet is mainly used in bedrooms or living rooms in CG sets. They are usually specified to make a space feel cosier and more homely and bring texture and colour to the room. Carpets can be made in any colour by using differently dyed fibers and have many different types of patterns.
Carpet tiles can also be used in commercial spaces, they are specified for their durability & versatility.
The type of material carpeting is constructed from can affect their texture, feel, quality, and appearance. Carpets are produced using a variety of materials, the most common are nylon, polyester, jute, acrylic, and wool. Each material offers different benefits like extreme softness, warmth, and durability
Nylon is the most common carpet fiber on the market today
Nylon carpets are less likely than many others to show indentations after furniture has rested on it. It looks new longer than most fibers.
Nylon is good for almost any part of the home, including high-traffic areas.
Polypropylene is a synthetic material, meaning it’s man-made.
Popular due to its combination of stain resistance, softness and value for money.
Good for budget spaces.
Wool, a traditional and natural fiber, has a soft and luxurious feel.
Polyester also offers vibrant color options.
Polyester fibers, like triexta fibers, are hydrophobic and resist stains. Polyester also offers vibrant color options. However, polyester fibers can fade in the sun and are generally known to be less durable than nylon fibers.
Indoor Carpet Styles and Constructions
Indoor carpet has three main types of carpet constructions from which to choose based on your needs and style.
Texture carpet or twist carpet is the most popular indoor carpet style. It uses two-toned yarn and has a tightly twisted construction that resists absorbing dirt. Soft to the touch and subdued in appearance, texture carpet is a popular choice for family rooms and bedrooms.
Berber carpet or loop carpet is a dense construction that holds up well in heavily trafficked areas. The yarn is uncut and looped, which makes it highly stain resistant and one of the best carpets for stairs, hallways and basements. Note that pet claws can snag on this type of carpet.
Pattern carpet is a combination of texture and berber constructions. Since the looped yarn is slightly shorter than the cut yarn, this type of carpet appears to have its pattern cut into the surface. Many people prefer to use pattern carpet in family rooms, bedrooms and offices due to its sophisticated appearance.
Carpet tiles are small squares of carpet that can be laid in many versatile ways. While squares are most common, carpet tiles are also available in other shapes such as planks, triangles and hexagons. Standard tile shapes are faster and easier to lay than wall to wall carpet and result in considerably less wastage, saving on both time and money.
A carpet’s pile refers to how its fibers are sewn into the backing (i.e. the carpet’s base). Carpet pile plays the starring role in determining a carpet’s texture, look, and performance.
There are 3 main types of carpet pile:
Cut Pile Carpet - The fibers of cut pile carpet are cut at a specific height and then twisted into tufts to create a comfortable, uniform texture. Cut pile carpets are very comfy and look fantastic.
Loop Pile Carpet - With loop carpets, the fibers are looped back into the carpet backing. Loop pile carpet tends to be less flashy than cut pile carpet, but the trade-off is that it’s more durable.
Cut-and-Loop Carpet - Cut-and-loop pile carpet combines both pile styles to create elaborate textures and designs. This technique can often be found in rugs.

Low pile carpet - has short fibers that look and feel flat and dense. Low pile carpet is the best carpet for high traffic areas and rooms where dirt, pet hair or other messes are a concern.
Medium pile carpet - offers a balance of ease and comfort. With fibers taller than those of low pile carpet, medium pile carpet is softer to the touch but still manages to hold up to moderate foot traffic and dirt, making it a popular choice for living rooms and bedrooms where you may want more comfort underfoot. Although more prone to catching pet hair and debris, this type of carpet can still be easily cleaned with a vacuum with a brush roller.
High pile carpet - has long fibers that create a plush and fluffy look and feel. High pile carpets add extra cushion underfoot but also more readily collect dust and debris, making it require more frequent maintenance. Additionally, high pile carpets are more prone to being crushed and holding impressions from furniture and foot traffic. This pile height is a good choice for areas where you want to add a touch of warmth and luxury or where you want to dampen noise.
Unlike wooden flooring, carpet does not need a shadow gap, as it would be fitted after the skirting has been added.
Carpets need to be fitted against the skirting board, not underneath them.
