Remote desktop lets you view and control a remote computer through the internet. One of the easiest ways to do that is using the built in Windows Remote Desktop (RDP for short).
To use Windows RDP you will need to be connected to the VPN of the office where the machine you are connecting to is.
If you are logging on to a machine with a shared login like vmrender and you get a message that someone else is logged in please don't continue as this will disconnect their session and they will get logged off. Windows RDP is not a shared RDP only one user at a time is allowed.
This guide will help you get Remote Desktop-ing. If you need help just dial 0800 I-NEED-HELP or talk to the IT Manager. (for explanation of sarcasm click here)
STEP 1. Press the WINDOWS START button at the bottom left of your taskbar. Type Remote Desktop and choose the icon to run RDP (IT people love acronyms. Deal with it)

STEP 2. Get connected by typing in the machine name you want to connect to (or the IP address but if you know that you don't need this guide). Below expand the options and enter your user name. In this example this is the vmrender user commonly used for render machines.
STEP 3. Of course it will then ask you for a password. I'm not telling you that. You should know that. Or ask the IT Manager.
STEP 4. You can now control the remote machine as if you were phyisically working on it. Enjoy.
Stuff to note:
Windows Remote Desktop doesn't let you use some open GL applications, namely sketchup and fusion struggle with that. An alternative approach such as Teamviewer or Google Remote Desktop is required. Check the guides linked.
