Quality - You are responsible for the quality of the 3D production of all artists on your projects. Production, Styling and the Art Director are there to support you in achieving this within their own areas.
Efficiency - You will have the most knowledge of how long many 3D tasks should take and so, working with the producer, you will advise on timelines and help to keep artists on track with tasks.
Communication - Encouraging pro-active communication is key to a successful project. If an artist is running behind, or needs assistance, ensure they communicate this as early as possible with production so they can be supported by the team.
Daily check-in with each artist working on your jobs to ensure work is on track and they are comfortable with the day ahead.
Assist artists with any queries they have, if you cannot help, please direct them to the relevant team member, e.g. Producer or Art Director.
When Proofs are uploaded, ensure artists comment on their proofs before notifying all team members and then QC the proof yourself.
Be present for all briefing and review calls across your projects. Please listen to feedback on all sets and contribute wherever possible.
As the above roles and responsibilities are in addition to the 3D Artist role, Time-management is key. Here is a short guide on managing that time:
A single project will have some key times that a lead must be available for, e.g. Team Briefing, Draft Reviews, and Debrief. These will all be noted in the calendar, and across multiple projects should take on average 3-4 hours per week.
As your resource manager will ensure that Lead artists have a less 'active' work to do (usually only having a single set to work on at any one time,) Daily check-ins on each projects and assisting with artist queries etc can take a portion of each day. (Roughly 30-45 mins per project each day across the week.)
This should still allow Lead artists around 5 hours each day to focus on their own Sets.Â
If this changes and there is not enough time to Lead multiple projects and work on current sets, a lead artist can get in touch with your resource manager for assistance.
