In order to find and resuse the models in future projects they have to be published in the Database. The publishing happens after the asset build task is set To Publish and the modeler needs to set the task to Published after the necessary steps are done. All the models are saved in the R drive in different volumes. The current volume that we are using is VOL_014. The Database management software that we are using is Connecter. Below is a quick overview of the layout of Connecter.
Folders view- here we have all the different volumes with models that we currently have in our database. They are organised as we see them in Windows Explorer
Tag View - here we have all the different tags for the different types of models that we have. The database is organised by tagging all of our assets (3D and 2D) and dividing them in categories.
Main view - here we have all the information about the model.
Steps for Publishing a Model
Adding Previews to .max files - in order to view the model properly we need to add the modeling renders as previews by right clicking on the .max file in the folders view.
Adding description - description needs to be added for more information about the model. The size information is especially important as it is difficult to assess the scale of some models from the previews. Problems may accur like the model may turn out to be bigger or smaller than what the stylist thought when they've put it the lifestyle stylesboards for example. Please use the template below to add the information about the model.
Source/Manufacturer: - this is usally the name of the client for which to model is being modeled
Size: - overall dimensions of the the model in centimeters - WxLxHcm
Product Link: - website link if there is any
Artists: - the modeler who modeled the prop/product (ex. PV)
External files - these are all the bitmaps which are used in the shaders of the model. We have to make sure all the files are linked and there are no missing maps.
Manage files - if there are some missing bitmaps they have to be relinked. This can be done by clicking on the Manage Files button and searching the folder where the missing maps should be.
Tagging - after the above steps are done the complete model need to be tagged in the UNCATEGORIZED section. This is done by selecting the .max file, clicking the tagging activation button and then checking the box as UNCATEGORIZED. The final tagging and categorisation of the models is done by the stylist team. They also need to be tagged in the project number tag.
