General Do's & Don't
Bedding has the ability to bring elements of an interior scheme together so it plays a very vital part of our lifestyle imagery.
A bedding simulation can change the way an entire set is viewed (or in a client eyes, sold), for instance a relaxed bedding sim with scattered cushions and draped throws may suggest a relaxed way of life and the set may be selling more of a lifestyle, where-as bedding that features tucked sheets and clean shapes may appeal to someone looking for a straighforward, reliable purchase.
Having this variation of bedding allows us to provide imagery that appeals to a wide spectrum of clients and customers. However there are some key guidlines that can apply to all bedding sims to ensure the main product (usually the bedframe) is still the main focus of the scene.
Do maintain realistic movement, by adding creases/folded details.
Do add seams, tassles, boarders & fur for added realism.
Do follow visual references for accurate shaders, patterns and details.
Do create bedding that's to scale, unless directed otherwise.
Do lay pillows/cushions back to see more of the bedframe
Do cosider that ottoman beds will have open shots where bedding will be viewed from below and will need an opened preview to review
Do consider lighting within the set - hard lighting will reveal any bumps/lumps
Don't create messy bedding that distracts from the product (Usually the bed)
Don't position the mattress too high (this will create bulky bedding)
Don't make the duvet too thick (this will create 'inflated' bedding)
Don't hide too much of the headboard
Don't hide any foot details
Dont hide any handle details
Don't let bedding elements sink or crash into eachother
Dreams are extremely product focused and will usually show 3 main shots & 3 key close up cameras for each lifestyle set.
3/4 main angle
Front on main angle
Headboard detail shot
Foot detail shot
Footend detail shot
Because of this, elements to the top and bottom of the bed should look realistic and should hold up well in close up cameras, the bedding simulation should also be previewed from at least a 3/4 and head on angle to ensure a detailed review can be accomplished.

All the props & products within NEXTs lifestyle imagery are client products and are available to purchase online. This means all bedding elements are specific client products, so textures shaders and geometries have to be especially accurate to match client/online product references. Stylists will reference products from the Next website and will refer back to these references to make sure the product is accurate.
