Born 1877 Sandridge (Port Melbourne), the youngest of children born to John Brown & Margaret Emily Youngman. The family lived at Port Fairy in South West Victoria for some years.
From the ODH House Committee report 17 October 1904 – On October 7th the senior nurses’ examination was held. Each of the three candidates passed. … Nurses Brown and Christiansen passed.
From the UNA Journal October 1904 - OVENS DISTRICT HOSPITAL
The final examination of senior nurses was held on the 6th and 7th inst. The following nurses were examined:— Nurse Mary Munro passed with credit; and Nurses Julia Brown and Anna Christiansen passed well. We are all very pleased with the results.
From the ODH House Committee report 20 February 1905 – It was recommended to the Board that the seal of the hospital be attached to the certificate of Nurse Brown.
… Nurse Brown was then called in, and the President, in handing her nurse's certificate, expressed a hope that she would long be spared to follow the calling she had taken up. Ovens and Murray Advertiser 25 February 1905.
Date of qualification, 28 February 1905.

Nurse Julia Mary Brown completed her term of training on the 28th of February and has left the hospital. We all wish her every success in her new sphere.

1912 ER Nurse Portland Hospital
1914 ER nurse at Tyers Street, Portland.
1918 - 1937 ER Nurse at Ringlands, Monbulk – a convalescent home, in Invermay Road. Julia was most likely the proprietor.
BROWN -On the 14th July at Cheltenham Sister Julia Mary Brown RVTNA late of Monbulk in her 59th year (Inserted by *E M Artso) (Interred in Springvale Cemetery). The Argus. 15 July 1939.
*Emily Martha Artso, was also a nurse and appears to have lived with Julia at Monbulk from around 1924 until at least 1937.
