Jessie Elizabeth Cameron

1895-1964

Born 1895 at Smythesdale to Donald Cameron and Mary Anne Frances White. The sixth of twelve children.

 1909 ER with family at 29 Ryan Street Footscray, home duties

 From the ODH House Committee report 11 May 1914 – The Secretary reported that … the two present vacancies had been filled by the appointment of … and Miss Cameron of Melbourne.

 From the minutes of ODH board meeting July 20, 1914 - On the motion of Mr Armstrong and Mr Carnsew, the seal of the hospital was affixed to the indentures of Nurses Jarvis, Cameron & Spicer.

 From the ODH Inpatient Register 1 January 1906-28 April, 1925. Admitted as a patient with tonsillitis, on 18 September 1914. 22 September 1914 discharged to her father, Donald Cameron.

 From the ODH House Committee 19 October 1914 - The secretary reported that Nurses Cameron, Jarvis and Spicer had been examined by the medical officers as to physical fitness for nursing, and had passed. Their indentures were ready for signature.

 Passed exams held 21st and 22nd November, 1916. - Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 20 December 1916 page 2.

EXAMINATION RESULTS.

Following are the names of the successful candidates at the half-yearly examination held by the Royal Victorian

Trained Nurses’ Association on 21st and 22nd November:—

… Beechworth Hospital (Ovens District).—Jessie Elizabeth Cameron, Mabel Helena Chapman, Frances Lillian Mackay.

 From the ODH House Committee report 14 May 1917 – The resignation of Sister Porter was received and accepted. Nurse Cameron was appointed to the vacancy.

 From the minutes of ODH board meeting 19 June 1917 - The seal of the hospital was affixed to the certificates of Nurses Cameron and … the certificate of Nurse Cameron was presented by the President in a few well chosen words.

From the ODH House Committee report 21 August 1917 – the resignation of Sister Cameron was received.

1919, 1921, 1924 & 1925 ER 152 Power Street, Hawthorn – a trained nurses’ home.

1931 at 391 Royal Parade, Hawthorn, nurse.

1935 at 7 Yarra Street, Hawthorn, nurse.

1937, 1942 at 28 Chrystobel Crescent, Hawthorn, nurse.

1954 ER 7 Mary Street, Malvern.

 Died 18 May 1964. Ashes scattered Fawkner 20 May 1964. Probate granted October 1964.
