Laura Daisy Moore

1878 - 1960


Fa: William Ainsworth Moore (carpenter/builder). Mo: Sarah Martha Prout. Born Inglewood, 1878. 2nd youngest of 6 children..

 From the ODH House Committee report 18 June 1900 – The Matron reported that Nurse Moore had been examined and was considered suitable to enter on a three years’ probation.

 From the ODH House Committee report 25 February 1901 – The reported stated that on 19th, 20th & 21st February the annual examinations of nurses was held. … Among the junior nurses, Nurse Moore passed with credit and Nurses Cameron, Boucher and McFadyen passed.

 From the ODH House Committee report 6 April 1903 – that the final examinations for nurses was held on 2 – 3 April and Nurse L.D. Moore passed with credit.

 ... The seal of the hospital was affixed to Nurse Moore's certificate ...  see Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 25 April 1903.

 Date of qualification – 30 April 1903.


Una Journal, July 1903 – PERSONAL … Miss L.D. Moore having completed her training at the Ovens District Hospital, Beechworth has passed the final examination and obtained her certificate. … Correspondence - Ovens District Hospital wrote notifying Dr. Skinner and Miss Winning as representatives of the Beechworth sub-centre on the Council; also notifying that the only candidate, Nurse Moore, had passed her final examination with credit.

 UNA Journal, September 1904 has Laura nursing at 63 Rathdowne Street, Carlton – most likely a private hospital.

 Did midwifery at Women’s Hospital 1910. Registered as a midwife 17 November 1916. Along with a sister, Alice Mary who registered as a midwife 5 October 1916. Alice died at 40 Evelina Road, 17 August 1940.

 1914 – 1917 ER is at what appears to be the family home at 40 Evelina Road, Toorak.

 1919 – 1924 ER is a nurse at Research.

 Riverina News - There were nine applications for the position of Home Sister at Amherst Hospital & Sanitorium at a salary of £130 per annum. Miss Moore was appointed. The Age, 14 Oct 1930.

 TALBOT - Miss Moore of Melbourne, has been appointed home sister at the Amherst Hospital, The Argus, 14 October 1930.

 1931 ER lists Laura as a home sister at the Amherst District Hospital. The hospital also functioned as a tuberculosis sanatorium.  By August 1933, Amherst Hospital had been closed.

 

1936 ER is a nurse at Research.

 1939 still registered as a midwife.

 1943 still registered as a general nurse.

Deaths - Moore, Laura Daisy – On May 21, of 40 Evelina Road, Toorak, youngest daughter of the late William and Sarah Moore, and dear aunt of Jocelyn and Alice O’Neil of Cowra, N.S.W. The Age, 25 May 1960.
