Nellie Vera Giblett
1898 - 1973
Born 1898 Nicholson Street, Fitzroy.
Fifth child of civil servant Elijah Edward (known as Edward) Giblett and Isabella Annie Thomson. Isabella died 1902. 8 Children in all.
1 June 1900, Elijah as a Land Officer was transferred to the Ararat and Stawell district. 1904 Edward married Lavena Jane Boyd. At the end of March 1916, Edward was transferred from Ararat to Beechworth as land officer.
1916 - Nellie joined the staff of the Beechworth Presbyterian Sabbath School. See Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 7 Mar 1917.
December 1918 - Nellie applied for a probationer position at the Ararat Hospital and Benevolent Asylum – name added to list. See The Ararat Advertiser and Chronicle for the Stawell and Wimmera Districts, 12 Dec 1918.

From the ODH Inpatient Register 1 January 1906-28 April, 1925. Admitted as a patient with coryza, on 19 April 1919. 22 April 1919 discharged to her father, E.E. Giblett of Beechworth.

From the ODH House Committee report 14 July 1919 – The matron and nurses Mowatt, Bruce and Giblett are ill with influenza.
From the ODH Inpatient Register 1 January 1906-28 April, 1925. Admitted as a patient with tonsillitis on 28 October 1919. 5 November 1919 discharged to her father, E.E. Giblett of Beechworth.
From the ODH House Committee report 21 February 1922 – Nurse Giblett will complete her 3 years training on the 28th inst.
Date of qualification 1 March 1922.

1925 Nurse’s Registration has Nellie at "Ards," 32 Charnwood-road, St. Kilda. “Ards” was a trained nurses’ home under the leadership of a Miss Hose.
“WINDULVA” PRIVATE HOSPITAL
The public are hereby notified that Sisters R E Ballard (late AIF) and N.V. Giblett have opened a well furnished and up-to-date private hospital with large and spacious rooms and grounds at “Windulva” in Twelfth Street, Mildura for medical, surgical and midwifery cases. NOTICE is hereby given, that the PARTNERSHIP heretofore subsisting between Nellie Vera Giblett, of Twelfth street, Mildura, in the State of Victoria, nursing sister, and Rosalind Eva Ballard, of 25 Bryson Street, Canterbury, in the said State, nursing sister carrying on the business of a private hospital known as "Windulva." and situate at Twelfth street, Mildura aforesaid, has been DISSOLVED by mutual consent as from the first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-eight. All debts due to and owing by the late partnership will be received and paid by the said Nellie Vera Giblett, who will continue to carry on the said business on her own account.

Nellie’s father, Edward died 7 April 1939. Probate granted 25 May 1939.
Strangely, her step mother Lavena died 3 days later on 10 April 1939. Probate granted 29 September 1939.
AFTER the expiration or 14 days from publication hereof application will be made to the Supreme Court of Victoria in the Probate Jurisdiction that LETTERS of ADMINISTRATION of the estate of LAVENA JANE GIBLETT late of 62 Fitzroy street, Geelong East widow deceased with the will, which will is dated the 27th day of May 1938 of the said deceased thereto annexed be granted to Florence May Gardiner of High street Ararat married woman, a sister and one of the next of kin of the said deceased, Elijah Edward Giblett, late of 62 Fitzroy street Geelong East retired civil servant deceased the executor named In and appointed by the said will having predeceased the said Lavena Jane Giblett deceased.
