Born Violet Town, 10 October 1916. Fa: Randall Smith (school teacher). Mo: Violet Mildred Owen. Oldest of four children.
From the ODH house committee report 19 November 1935 – Nurse Smith of Yackandandah had arrived and is on duty. Matron reports that she is satisfactory.
From the ODH house committee report 16 December 1936 – Nurses ... and Smith are on their annual holiday.
From the ODH house committee report 18 January 1938 – Nurse Smith has returned from her holidays.
From the ODH House Committee report 20 December 1938 – Word has been received from the Nurse’s Board to the effect that nurses Smith, Pittaway & Broadbent have been successful in passing their examinations. They are now entitled to their certificates from the committee of this hospital.
Date of qualification November 1939.
1939 ER has Constance at the 483 Mint Place, Melbourne which was part of the Queen Victoria Hospital for Women and contained a TB Annexe.
June 1940 is at St. Patrick’s St. Clayton North. (Possibly the Smith family home).
December 1942 obtained midwifery qualification - Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney.
February 1945 awarded Special Certificates for Infant Welfare Nursing.
ABOUT PEOPLE
The death occurred on Christmas eve of Mr. Randall Smith of Clayton. He was head teacher of the Yackandandah School from 1934-36. His kind sympathetic nature made him very popular with his pupils and his friendliness endeared him to the residents. Mr. Smith and his family were prominent in sporting clubs and all local activities. He was a famous trout fisher and was due to arrive in Yackandandah to go fishing at the time of his death. In 1937 Mr Smith transferred to Clayton where he had resided ever since. He leaves a widow and grown up family of two sons and two daughters. One of his daughters completed her nursing training at the Ovens District Hospital, Beechworth. Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 15 January 1947.
1949 married Percival Charles Wells, had two boys.
1958 - 1980 ER Constance and Percy are living at 119 The Righi, Ivanhoe. Percy is a salesman.
Wells - On 1 March at Warringal Private Hospital, Percival Charles (Mick). Loved husband of Constance loving father of Michael and John. The Age, 2 March 1982. Cremated Springvale Crematorium, 3 March 1982.
Wells, Constance Violet - On 26 April, beloved wife of Percival (dec.) loved and loving mother of Michael and John. The Age, 27 April 1982. Cremated Springvale Crematorium, 28 April 1982.
