DENSLEY -NICKLAUS
On Wednesday [24 February] a wedding of interest to residents of the Peechelba and Boweya districts was celebrated at Boweya, the contracting partners being Mr. Chas. Densley, second son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Densley of Boweya and Miss Ethel Nicklaus, eldest daughter of Mr. John Nicklaus, of Peechelba. Wangaratta Chronicle, 27 February 1915.
Evelyn born 14 August 1916 at Yarrawonga. The first of two daughters born to Charles Densley, a labourer and Ethel Nicklaus.
From the ODH House Committee report 19 April 1938 – As directed I advertised in the Age and Argus of 5 March for probationer nurses and received a reply from a Miss Evelyn M Densley of Boomahnoomamoonah, she did not obtain her merit, she says that she has completed a correspondence course with Stotts Technical College and that they have given her a certificate which is above the merit. I handed the application to Matron for perusal and she told me she would forward it on to the Nurses’ Board, that is nearly a month ago and no word yet.
Boomahnoomamoonah, is a rural location approximately 12 km southeast of Yarrawonga.
From the ODH House Committee report 17 May 1938 – A letter came from the Nurses’ Board on Saturday stating that they approved of the educational certificate of Miss Densley of Boomahnoomamoonah, I immediately rung her up and she will arrive as soon as possible.
From the ODH House Committee report 21 June 1938 – Miss Densley had arrived on the 29th May and Miss Lacy on the 30th.
From the ODH House Committee report 18 April 1939 – Miss Densley was admitted to the Intermediate ward on 14 April 1939 and is still under observation.
From the ODH House Committee report 16 May 1939 – Nurse Densley was discharged from Intermediate ward and has recommenced duty.
From the ODH House Committee report 19 July 1939 – Nurse Densley who commenced holidays on the 29th June will resume duty on 20th July.
From the ODH house committee Report 18 June 1940 – Nurse Densley commenced holidays on the 14th June.
From the ODH house committee Report 16 July 1940 – Nurse Densley has resumed duty.
Date of qualification August 1942.
1943 ER at 483 Mint Place, Melbourne – Nurse. 483 Mint Place was part of the Queen Victoria Hospital for Women and contained a TB Annexe.
1943 Register of General Nurses address is listed as 141 Rowan Street.
1943 married Donald Valentine McColl.
1944 Change of Name by marriage to McColl. Address 141 Rowan Street, Wangaratta – 1944 Register General Nurses.
1949 ER Evelyn & Donald lived at 58 Darling Street, Echuca. Donald a machinist, Evelyn home duties.
1954 - 1972 ER Evelyn & Donald lived at 7 Archibald Street, Pascoe Vale. Donald a machinist, Evelyn home duties.
McColl – on March 4th (result of accident), Donald Valentine of 7 Archibald Street. Pascoe Vale dearly loved husband of Evelyn May and son of the late Donald and Annie (late of Grahamvale), loving brother of Ralph and Ron. In God’s care. The Age, 6 March 1972. Inquest held 29 May 1972. (Not yet digitized).
1977 - 1980 ER Evelyn is at 1/32 Clark Street, Wangaratta – occupation nurse.
Evelyn died 30 July 1994 at Wangaratta – most likely St. John’s. Buried Wangaratta Lawn Cemetery 3rd August 1994.
Left a will. Probate granted 12 Sept. 1994.
