Anna May McAlpine

1917 - 1978


Born 20 May 1917 Yarrawonga. Second youngest child of 5 children born to John McAlpine & Anna Clark. Parents were farming at Whitfield 1935 - 1942.

 From the ODH house committee report 16 December 1936 – It was recommended that Miss Anna McAlpine of Whitfield be offered the appointment when another trainee was required.

 From the ODH house committee report 16 February 1937 – Miss McAlpine commenced duty as trainee.

 BEECHWORTH - Nurse A. M. McAlpine, formerly on the staff of the Ovens District Hospital, has been successful in passing her final examination recently held by the Nurses' Board. Albury Banner Wodonga Express and Riverina Stock Journal, 11 April 1941

 Awarded qualification June 1941.

 October 1941 & 1944 – Nurse’s registration has address as C/O Whitfield Post Office.

 However, 1943 ER has her at 483 Mint Place Melbourne – an annexe for TB patients.

 1949 ER trained nurse - Pearcedale.

 Married a teacher, John McKellar Scammell. 10 Jan 1953 at Sunshine. Had three children, two boys and a girl.

 1954 ER Anna & John are living at Woodford where John is teaching.

 1958 - 1963 ER Anna & John are living at Lindenow where John is teaching.

 1968 until her death is October 1978 Anna & John are living at 1 Fleming Grove, Pascoe Vale – John still teaching.

 Buried Fawkner 3 Oct 1978.
