Jacqualine June Wirth

1925 - 2013

From Beechworth Asylum Staff Register 1867-1966 under the name of Jacqualine June Howe: DOB: 15.6.25 at Bendigo. Jan 27 1945 Resigned from & inclusive of 28/1/45 Temp Nurse from & inclusive of 28-1-45.

Daughter of Edith Amy Cocks & George Wirth. The youngest of five children.

1944 Married Allan Edric Howe. Appear to have had one child (Juanita Dianne) and then divorced.

Passed final examinations November 1946 - see The Age 26 November 1946.

Date of qualification – January 1947.

… and on Tuesday evening Sister J. Howe, of the Ovens District Hospital staff, reported her bicycle missing … Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 2 August 1947.

ABOUT PEOPLE

Sister Jacqualine Howe was successful in the recent midwifery examination held by the Nurses Board. Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 25 December 1948.

First registered as a midwife 1949. Address is Ovens District Hospital.

MR. GEORGE WIRTH.

The- death occurred at his home, Finch Street, Beechworth, on Christmas day of Mr. George Wirth, who had lived at Beechworth for the past ten years. The second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wirth, he was born at Woodstock on Loddon on 21st December, 1876, and had farmed there all his adult life until a few years before moving to Beechworth. He was exceptionally good with horses, and no matter how wild they were, he could handle them like lambs. On 30th November, 1904, he married Miss Edith A. Cocks at Woodstock on Loddon and he is survived by his widow and the following family: Georgina (Mrs. Niemann, Beechworth), Cyril (Bill, Dandenong), Harry (Adelaide, S.A.), Dot (Mrs. Reid, Rhodes, N.S.W.), and Jacqualine (Sister Howe, Beechworth). One son, Vernon, is deceased. There are also six grandchildren. Mr. Wirth had been ill for the past three years, being bedridden most of the time. A short service was held at his home by the Rev. Lewis Clacton on Christmas day and burial took place at Bendigo on Monday, 26th December. Mr, W. E. Guthrie, of Beechworth, was in charge of the funeral arrangements. Appears to have been at the ODH from February 1943 to March 1950 – The resignation was received of Sister J. Howe, who had accepted a position elsewhere. In accepting the resignation, the committee place on record, its appreciation of the services given to the hospital by Sister Howe and wished her well in her new position. Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 25 March 1950.

 1949 ER Allan Howe is living with his new partner Betty Nellie Bye, at 117 Arnold Street, Carlton and is a cleaner.

 1954 ER Jacqualine is nursing at the Concord Repat Hospital in Sydney.

 Jacqualine’s name is removed from Nurses Register 1956.

 1958 ER appears as Jacquelin June Hobson living with her new husband Dr David Lennox Husband, at 58 Eva Street, Coorparoo, a suburb in the inner city of Brisbane.

 1963 – 1977 ER Jacquline & David are living at 41 Curd Street, Greenslopes, Queensland.

 David died 19 Aug 2008 in Brisbane.

 HOBSON (nee Wirth). - Jacqueline June Passed away peacefully May 12, 2013 Beloved wife of David (dec.). Remembered husband Allan (dec.). Youngest child of the late George and Edith. Cheeky sister of the late Vern, Ena, Bill, Harry and Dot. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Juanita and Ian (dec.), Malcolm and Judy, Peter and Christine. Much loved grandmother and great grandmother of Vikki and Mark, Stephen and Stephanie, Anthony, Harry, Michael, Bill, Lily and Angus. Thank you for teaching us life lessons. You led an interesting life as you were always an exceptionally brave and unique lady.
