1889-1968
Parents, William Edward Gibson Auger & Pheobe Jane Slee, born 13 September 1889 at Bright. She was the fourth child of eight children.
Jane appears to have worked at a private hospital in Bright prior to becoming a probationer at the ODH.

From the minutes of the ODH board meeting 15 February 1916 - The seal of the hospital was affixed to the indentures of Auger …

Auger, Jane, “ St. Albans” Private Hospital, Wangaratta— Cert. Beechworth Hospital, December, 1918. Exam., November, 1918.
According to an advertisement in the Wangaratta Chronicle dated 10 November 1917, St Albans was a two-storey building containing 20 rooms with an up to date operating theatre and has recently been thoroughly renovated. Was owned and operated by a Mrs E R Vincent and was in Cusack Street, Wangaratta. It stood where the Heritage Motor Inn now stands.
Jane appears to have been at St Albans until May 1920. In June of that year she relocated to 419 High Street, Kew. It's possible that she was employed by the Bosse family as a private nurse as 419 High Street, was the Bosse family home. By February 1922 Jane is at St. Margaret’s Trained Nurse’s Home & Bureau, St. Kilda Road Melbourne where she remained until at least December 1926.
Aged thirty nine Jane married widower Charles Percy Aston in 1928. Charles was the father of five children, the youngest of whom was twelve in 1928.
In 1931 when their only child was born Charles and Jane were living in Balranald, New South Wales. See Riverina Recorder 17 October 1931. However, by 1935 Charles is still in Balranald while Jane is now living with her parents at Gavan Street, Bright. She has renewed her nurse's registration and is working as a nurse. Her name is finally removed as a nurse in June 1951. She was 62 at the time.
Jane died at Ashburton on 12 May 1968 aged almost seventy nine. Two days later she was buried at the Bright Cemetery.
It's not know why the headstone does not refer to either Jane's marriage or the birth of her only child.
