Mr. Eli Broadbent,
The death took place at his home, Greta, on Tuesday last, of Mr. Eli Broadbent, a farmer and pioneer resident of the Greta district, where he was born. The late Mr, Broadbent, who was aged 69 years, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Broadbent, of Greta, who were amongst the early pioneers of that district. As a young man he followed building operations, for some years building quite a number of the residences at Greta and in that district. At one time he was manager of the creamery at King Valley for the Hansen Dairy Company, and had the unique distinction of being the first manager of the Ovens and Murray Dairy Company’s factory at Springhurst. In his young days he was much interested in public life of the district, but latterly was more content to live a quiet life devoting himself to his farm. He is survived by his wife (formerly Miss Fleming, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Fleming, of Myrrhee), and the following family: — David, Frank, Horace and Wilfred (Greta), Mrs. A. Dawes (Laceby South), Mrs. J. Sumner (Greta), Ethel (Broadford), Grace (Melbourne) and Nurse Dorothy (Beechworth). The funeral took place at the Greta cemetery on Wednesday. Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 12 September 1936.
