ABOUT PEOPLE
At the recent first professional examination held under the Nurses’ Board, Nurse Betty C. Bowerman of the Ovens District Hospital, was one of the successful candidates. Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 16 July 1946.
From Committee of Management meeting held 21 January 1949 – It was resolved that the seal of the hospital be attached to the certificate of Miss B. Bowerman, who had recently completed her training and successfully passed her examinations and was now eligible to act as a trained nurse. Congratulations were extended to Sister Bowerman on her success. Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 29 January 1949.
Date of qualification, 31 January 1949 – ODH & Wangaratta Hospital.

During the year Sister Bowerman resigned the position of Sister In Charge prior to entering into the bond of matrimony. A presentation was made to Sister Bowerman by Mr. Ryan on behalf of the staff. Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 3 June 1950

OBITUARY
Mr. H.H. Bowerman
The death occurred on Saturday 16th August of Mr Harry Hazeldene Bowerman at the age of 72 years.
Born at St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England he was the second son of the late Robert John and Charlotte Bowerman.
Mr Bowerman arrived in West Australia in 1914 after spending a number of years in China. In West Australia he held the position as time keeper at the Great Bolder Perseverance Gold Mine.
He was employed at Zwar Bros., tannery, Beechworth for 27 years before retiring from this position four years ago.
He is survived by his wife (formerly Miss Dora Hicks), whom he married at Beechworth and three daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. J. Mitchell, Belgrave), Ella (Mrs. C.H. Fletz, Albury) and Betty (Mrs. R. Mason, Beechworth), also six grandchildren …Ovens and Murray Advertiser[1], 3 September 1958.
After their marriage, Betty and Bob lived at Stanley. However, by at least 1963 Robert had become a lands inspector and the couple were living in what became the family home for many years at Sydney Road, Beechworth.
Betty’s name was removed from the Victorian Nurses’ Register in 1955.

Betty and Bob had two children, one of whom died suddenly in 2012 and was buried at Stanley cemetery.
Bob Mason predeceased his son in December 2000 and is also buried in the Stanley cemetery.
Betty lived in her Sydney Road home into her early nineties before entered a local aged care facility, Stringybark Lodge at Beechworth Health Service. She passed away peacefully, aged 96, on 15 January 2025.
