Vera Mary Argyle Jackson

1909 - 2001

Born Albert Park, 1909 to Robert Jackson & Carol. Sophia Farrant.

From the ODH House Committee report 15 November 1932 – Nurse Jackson has completed her 3 years and left for Melbourne.

Passed final examinations November 1933 - see Argus, 1 December 1933, page 13.

Date of qualification – December 1933.

1936 is at 11 George Street, East Melbourne, a trained nurses’ home.

1935 & 1940 address is Cardinia via Clyde.

CRANBOURNE, Sunday. — The Cardinia Presbyterian Church was gayly decorated with autumn flowers, and foliage for the wedding of Sister Vera Jackson, daughter of Mrs. Robert Jackson, Cardinia, to Mr. Robert Alfred Foreman, Cohuna. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. T. Jackson, wore a gown of magnolia satin designed on simple lines, and her veil was held in place with a halo of orange blossom. The only bridesmaid. Miss Gladys Mathers, wore a lovely frock of sea blue patterned georgette, with a golden …. Mr. J. Thornalley was best man. The ceremony was performed by Rev, A. Pye. Sister Vera Jackson, daughter of Mrs. Robert Jackson, of Cardinia, was married on Saturday to Mr Robert Alfred Foreman, of Cohuna, at the Cardinia Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Andrew Pye. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. T. Jackson, wore a gown of magnolia satin. The bridesmaid, Miss

Gladys Fethers, wore sea blue patterned georgette. Mr. Joseph Thornalley was best man. The Argus, 29 May 1939.

Cardinia Presbyterian Church was gaily decorated with autumn flowers and foliage for the wedding of Sister Vera Jackson, youngest daughter of

Mrs. Robert Jackson, of Cardinia, to Mr. Robert Foreman, of Cohuna. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Tom Jackson, wore a gown of magnolia satin, designed on simple lines. The bodice was ruched to the high neck line, and the wedding veil was held in place with a halo of orange blossom. She (carried a shower bouquet of white Japanese chrysanthemums. The bridesmaid, Miss Gladys Mathers, of Cohuna, wore a lovely frock of sea blue patterned georgette, with a ruched bolice. A golden halo kept her veil in place, and she carried a shower bouquet of pink carnations and delphiniums and tied with long golden streamers. The best man was Mr. Joseph Thornalley, and the ceremony was performed by the Rev. Andrew Pye. The reception was held at the home of Mrs. Jackson, where 30 guests were entertained, and the usual toasts were honored. Mr. and Mrs. Foreman will make their home at Cohuna. Vera continued to work under her family name Jackson in 1943 & 1944 at the Argyle Private Hospital in Cohuna owned by a Dr. Stewart.

Died at Cohuna in November 2001 and was buried with her husband at the Cohuna Cemetery.
