Tim Rooney

Timothy Philip Rooney, from Bassakly, Gwent, was born on June 1, 1956, and rode his first winner, Vodka Cup, at Hereford on Wednesday, March 31, 1976.

Tim, who worked as a farrier in Marshfield, nominated winning Stratford's Horse & Hound Cup as the highlight of his career.

On Saturday, 14 March 1987, at Grove and Rufford point-to-point, he did well to ride his 100th winner on the error-prone Suikerboss.

Tim was unlucky in May 1990, when fracturing an ankle after falling on Gun Metal Boy at Ystrad. He was only two behind Philip Scholfield at the time in the title race. Horse and rider both returned to the fray to score easily at Cattistock the following season.
