Adrian Rolls

Article by Alan Trout

Adrian Rolls had a couple of winners over jumps towards the end of the 1980s. A conditional jockey with Captain Tim Forster, his first ride was far from ordinary.

At Plumpton on November 26, 1988, he was riding Debbie’s Prince for trainer Colin Bravery in the Stanmer Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle. The five-year-old made rapid progress to lead at the second last flight and was clear when running out through the wing of the final hurdle.

More than a year passed before Adrian came close to victory again, but at Chepstow on October 28, 1989 he enjoyed a much smoother rider when the eight-year-old Suez, trained by Captain Forster, led at the second last and ran on to beat Kamrise by two lengths in the Sharplas Windows Conditional Jockeys’ Series Handicap Hurdle.

Captain Forster also supplied Adrian’s other winner when Social Climber made rapid headway in the last half mile and led inside the final furlong to take the Charland N.H. Flat Race by half a length at Worcester on February 15, 1989. It was the five-year-old’s first race under rules and he started at 16/1. Although Adrian had nearly 20 rides that season, he was unable to add to his total.
