Charles Rayner

1842 - 1889


Charles Rayner, the son of a trainer, was born at Newmarket in July 1842. His father,

Charles, was also born at Newmarket. His mother, Sarah, was born at Barton Mills in Suffolk.


He won the 1857 Royal Hunt Cup on Rosa Bonheur. It was a particularly fine effort as the

horse had finished second in a race at the course the previous afternoon.


He died at Burwell, near Newmarket, on September 26, 1889, aged 47.
