He had the good fortune to be a conditional with top trainer Josh Gifford, for whom his cousin, Richard Rowe, was stable jockey. It was on the Gifford-trained Bradbury Star that he had his first winner when the four-year-old led from the eighth flight to land the November Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at Sandown Park by a length and a half. Bradbury Star went on to win several good races including the 1994 Mackeson Gold Cup.

That was Geoff’s penultimate win, with the next race on that Towcester card being his last, when Singing Gold beat Ruby Look by eight lengths to take the Duncote Hurdle. He rode for one more season but without further success.
