Edgar Rowson rode eight winners over three years at the start of the 20th century and then came back a few years later to add one more.
Born in 1870, his first winning ride was at Haydock Park on March 1, 1901, when his mount Rosezeta took advantage of the last flight fall of the leader Killarkin to land the Friday Selling Hurdle by 15 lengths. He added three more before the end of the year, all on the selling chaser Starch, all three races involving just two opponents.
He had two wins in each of the next two years, then did not score for two more, before disappearing completely between 1906 and 1908. His final victory was at Woore on April 14, 1910, when riding Lord Clive to win the Market Drayton Selling Hurdle, having worn down the long time leader Galamart to score by a length and a half.
He had a few more rides after that, the last coming at the Tarporley Hunt meeting on April 17, 1912, when Aguador refused in the Cheshire Farmers’ Chase.
