During an earlier class, you reviewed influences and past experiences and examined how they shaped all behaviors.   Indeed, your behaviors and as an extension, almost every choice you make in life are certainly things that help determine your overall Health & Wellness.  However, your learned and chosen behaviors are not the only determining factors for Health.  In fact, there are some researchers that argue that Social Determinants of Health, commonly written SDOH, may be even MORE of an "influence" on your decisions than you are aware of.

According to Healthy People 2030, "Social determinants of health (SDOH) are the conditions in the environments where people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks (Healthy People 2030, citation below)

SDOH can be grouped into 5 domains: Economic Stability, Educational Access and Quality, Health care access & Quality, Social and Community Context, and Neighborhoods and "built" environment"

The purpose of this webpage is to inform our young people so that they can recognize and strive to overcome inherent risk factors to making healthy decisions.
