According to the World Health Organization, Violence is the "the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, that either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation."

This definition clearly indicates that Violence can also include Verbal acts.

The WHO goes on to break violence into 3 main categories:

1) Acts of Self-directed violence (including self harm),

2) Collective violence (violence between two groups) such as wars, gang fights and at times, opposing sides of non-peaceful protests.

3) Interpersonal violence (which is the most common type of violence; where there is a victim and an aggressor) which can be further broken down into family and intimate partner violence OR community violence.
