Marijuana

To be fair, there is a major difference between Recreational Marijuana use and Marijuana Use for Medicinal purposes.

THC (Delta Tetrahydrocannabinol 9) is the active compound in Marijuana which makes it a Psychoactive drug and, although legal to varying extents around the nation in many states, state by state, Marijuana is still not legal at the Federal Level although in November 2020, the House voted to make it decriminalized.   This allowed the states to more easily pass legislation legalizing it's use and decreasing penalties without Federal oversight blocking the path.

THC is not thought to be physically addictive but a physical dependence

and strong psychological addiction may develop.

It should be noted that this school and your teachers do not condone the recreational use of Marijuana by high school students.  (note: even in states where it's legal, the age is 21).  However, it should also be noted that like Alcohol consumption, there is a major difference between socially using Marijuana once in a while and it's daily use.

In addition, the vast majority of negative effects from Marijuana use come from smoking.  Thus, use of Marijuana in other forms (such as edibles, oils and tinctures) makes this a much more complex drug than people would like to admit.

For people who are legitimately prescribed medicinal Marijuana to treat a specific physical, mental or emotional illness, it can be safer than synthetically made drugs.  However, despite the argument of so many pro-marijuana advocates, it is still a drug and must be treated as such which means, use it properly and for it's intended use.

Although the slideshow below has some information pertaining to medicinal use of Marijuana, the majority of this page is devoted to the recreational use and abuse of the drug.

One final note: Cannabinoids other than THC, the most common of which is abbreviated by CBD, have been proven to have multiple medical benefits including pain killing properties.  High-Quality, THC FREE CBD products are thought to be non-addictive and are 100% legal throughout the United States.   Check out the CBD sub-page for more

Marijuana is decriminalized in Philadelphia for those over 21 if they have less than 1 ounce.

FREE E-COURSE on ABUSE of Marijuana

NOTE: the course was created in 2018 and speaks to the extreme to those for whom Marijuana became a problem meaning, those who were psychologically addicted or that it led to harder drugs.

A statement in the video says that Marijuana is a gateway drug.  That is not entirely true.  The accurate statement is not whether it is or isn't but that it can be.

Furthermore, in November 2020, Marijuana was decriminalized federally. It is still not legal nationwide but the ruling makes it easier for states to legalize it and set rules such as age restrictions and total amounts permitted to hold

THIS COURSE was created PRIOR to that regulation and does not IN ANY WAY speak of the medical use of Marijuana or the social, legal use of Marijuana products.  It SOLELY speaks about the abuse of Marijuana by those who it became a problem for

AMOUNTS of dryleaf "weed"

NOTE: I am not advocating it's use but it should be noted that possession of up to 1 oz (28 grams) is

NOT

a criminal offense in Philadelphia

Therefore, anyone who gets arrested solely for possession of Marijuana in Philadelphia has more than 1 oz OR is possibly being charged with an attempt to distribute

What Happens When you Quit Marijuana? (ASAP SCIENCE, 4/20/2021).

Most people say Marijuana is not addictive.  When they say this, they mean it is not physically addictive because it does not have withdrawal symptoms like other physically addicting drugs do.  HOWEVER, new research suggests that may not be the case.  Although the withdrawal symptoms are mild compared to drugs like Nicotine, Cocaine and Heroine or even Caffeine, they do still exist in some people.
