RIGHT TO THE POINT:
Activating the Cardiac Chain of Survival including when a bystander calls 911 and performs HANDS ONLY CPR, can literally SAVE A LIFE! There may be a time when you are the bystander that witnesses a person collapse and you may be the only person around. Because of this, Pennsylvania's legislators signed into law a graduation requirement where each student in high school must be taught Hands-Only CPR and the Cardiac Chain of Survival so that they are prepared to act if needed!

Use these videos to go through the steps of HANDS-ONLY CPR.
SPECIAL NOTE: Before providing care, determine if the scene is safe for you. If it's not, then there will be 2 people in need of care and not just one!

Using an AED
AEDS come in many shapes and sizes and are the 3rd link in the Cardiac Chain of Survival. AED's are used to send an electrical charge, aka "shock",
to the heart in order to help it when it's not beating correctly.
The images below are the most common AEDS' you will see and the videos show you how to use an AED
(NOTE: Some AED's are fully automatic once you connect the pads and some require you to push a button to deliver a shock. )
This is the Cardiac Science G5 Fully Automatic AED. It is the kind we have in school and take with us to the athletic fields
This is a Phillips Heart Smart AED and it is VERY common in Malls, Airports etc. It's usually a push button model to deliver the shock
PA "Good Samaritan" Acts related to CPR and use of an AED essentially state that people can use an AED or perform CPR if done in a reasonable manner and there is no emergency personnel present.
