What is HIIT?

HIIT stands for High-Intensity Interval Training.  If you refer to the Target Heart Rate and Rate of Perceived Exertion Principles on the Principles of Exercise and Training topic page, you will recall that intensity means "how hard" you work out.  This is based on the elevation of your heart rate, the stress on your muscles and overall effort.   

HIIT workouts are a type of workout where you combine short bursts of intense effort with periods of rest.  It has many benefits..some of which are listed in an article below including cardiovascular and metabolic benefits.  Best of all, they typically do not take a lot of time to do.
