HoFMeister’s Report
2024 is the fifth year for the P500m Hall of Fame and Progress Register, with 145 people recorded: ninety-four in the Hall of Fame, thirty-three in the Progress Register and four in the Junior Section. A warm welcome to all the newcomers! There is not yet a Roll of Honour for this Table.
In 2024 the fans of the "Quintas" bagged, altogether, 2,209 new P500m+ peaks, an average of more than fifteen each. Seventeen of them, all in the Hall of Fame, reached fifty new Quintas or more during the year. In the upper part of the Hall of Fame, legendary Bob Packard still stands at the top of the table, even if Rob Woodall is quickly approaching him. A new Gold Award was earned by Petter Bjørstad, who on 23rd May joined the other five gold members, climbing Cerro Nube Flane (3721 m, P2141m, Mexico). Later in August Petter devoted himself to a careful exploration of Mongolia, adding sixteen new Quintas to his bagging list.
Moving to the Silver Awards, two baggers attained them, Deividas Valaitis and Richard Mclellan, both demonstrating great diversity in the Quintas bagged in 2024 - covering various countries across different continents. Among the Silver Awards, Josef Nuernberger added 130 new Quintas to his game-bag, making him, for another year, the most prolific peak-bagger in this Table. Besides numerous Alpine Quintas in 2024, his booty also includes mountains from the Balkans and Massif Central.
The Bronze Awards section features three new participants and Hall members, Craig Jagow, Chad Thomas and Jay Dolan, along with two baggers who achieved more than a hundred new Quintas during the year: Dustin Erickson and the already mentioned Chad Thomas, both with 104 new P500m+ peaks.
We have four other new Hall members - welcome Justin Neal, David Jamieson, Rok Podgornik and David Purchase!
Last, but not least, the Junior section: as in 2022 and 2023 Sage Kallestad, now 17 years old, continues to dominate the scene for his final year as a Junior.
Fourteen people did not feature in this year’s progress register, as they climbed no new P500m peaks in 2024. From 2024, the rules have been changed so that you need to have climbed at least one new peak in a P-Category to feature in the Progress Register for that year.
My compliments to everyone, and best wishes for a 2025 of great peak-bagging satisfaction.
