P500-metre Peaks

This lower prominence  P-category is a relatively new one, first introduced to BwB for the year 2000.  It offers a good distribution of peak-bagging objectives in countries with both low and high mountain ranges.  It is not equivalent to any US P-category in imperial units.  Peaks are often 5km to 15km apart in major upland areas, and so may be linked on day- or back-packing hikes.  There are, for example, 136 P500-metre peaks in Scotland.  These peaks may offer a lower carbon footprint than the higher P-categories.

There are estimated to be over 53,000 P500m peaks across the world.

This Table has a Hall of Fame and Progress Register, and but currently no Roll of Honour

To enter the P500m BwB Hall of Fame, you need to have reached the summits of at least 150 peaks worldwide.

Bronze Awards are given at 350 peaks, Silver at 750 peaks and Gold at 1,200 peaks worldwide.

The current P500m HoFMeister is Filippo Ceragioli.

Filippo is a Piedmontese hiker, based in Turin in north-west Italy.  Besides his holidays, once a week he finds time for a morning or an afternoon hike on the mountains and hills surrounding his city.  He’s happiest if the target of his walk is a new summit, but doesn’t mind repeating “old” itineraries, sometimes in different seasons or different weather.  Even on the same route, he says nature every time offers you changing sights and sensations.

Filippo also practices trail running, some cycling and, if there is snow, cross-country skiing.
