International Peak-baggers' Tables 2021

P-Top 100

HoFMeister’s Report

This is the first year bagging totals have been collated by BwB for the 'World P-Top 100' - the list of the one hundred most prominent mountains in the world.  The Table highlights the achievements of mountaineers who focus on these most prominent peaks.

Twenty-nine people have been recorded in the second edition of the 2021 Table, which only consists of a Hall of Fame, with no Roll of Honour.  Four deceased peak-baggers are also included.  Four people have achieved Silver Awards, and five Bronze.  Nobody has yet achieved a Gold Award

Travel was, of course, constrained again by COVID restrictions in 2021, and the P-Top 100 peak-list is the most difficult in which to make progress in such times.  The most notable P-Top 100 peak-bagging total was from ‘Rockinstraw’, with Mount Stanley in Africa as his third in the year.   Doug Harris and Kathy Rich  recorded two new peaks in 2021.

The first person to qualify for the Hall was Bob Packard in 1991 with Mont Blanc 4810m, P4697m in Europe.  Two people entered the Hall in 2021 - Kathy Rich with an ascent of Haleakala 3055m, P3055m Hawaii, USA, and Sean Caulfield, new to this second edition, who added Mount Whitney 4419m, P3072m, USA.

Also new to the Hall are Duane Gilliland, who reached it in 2012 with his ascent of Pico de Orizaba 5636m, P4922m in Mexico, and "Michel W" in 2019 with his ascent of Mount Logan 5956m, P5247m in Canada.

Amongst the milestone peaks (10 to enter the hall), Ojos de Salado 6893m, P3688m in South America appears three times, but a wide variety of summits is included.  Two 8000-metre peaks appear as the highest peaks climbed by people in the Hall - Mount Everest 8849m, P8849m and Manaslu 8163m, P3092m in Asia.
