International Peak-baggers' Tables 2023

P300m

HoFMeister’s Report

A total of 7,140 P300m peak ascents were made by the 125 participants in the 2023 Table, averaging fifty-seven peaks per person in the year.  This clearly indicates a considerable surge in activity on the previous year, as the pandemic years recede behind us.

This year is the third for the junior section, with five participants climbing a total of 273 P300m peaks, averaging nearly fifty-five peaks per person (fifty in 2022).  Well done to all our Junior peak-baggers!

In the Hall of Fame Josef Nuernberger, with 165 new peaks, and Steven Song, with 119, pipped past Rob Woodall (109 new P300s) as front-runners in terms of new peaks in 2023.  Adam Walker, Daryn Dodge and Dustin Erickson also made it into the 100+ club.  In the Progress Register Anthony Marra surged ahead to near the threshold of the Hall, with ninety new peaks climbed.

The crown for the highest number of P300m peaks climbed in any of the years since BwB began in 2019 still remains with Josef Nuernberger, who managed 295 P300m peaks in 2020.  Will anyone be able to surpass this in 2024?

Of the eleven new participants in this year’s Hall of Fame, three qualified from the Progress Register, while the rest are new to BwB this year.  A warm welcome to the Hall, and also to those joining the Progress Register, for the first time.

2023 saw three awards, with Petter Bjørstad and John Stolk gaining Silver, and Steven Song achieving a Bronze.  Congratulations, Petter, John and Steven!

A number of people look to be Hall qualifiers in 2024, either because they are within twenty peaks of the threshold, or because their foreign peaks ratio is steadily increasing to the 10% required for entry.

Steve Smith, the P300m HoFMeister has been unable to complete the 2023 report, so I am writing it in his place.  We very much hope he is able to step back into the role for 2024 and beyond.
