International Peak-baggers' Tables 2020

P500m

HoFMeister’s Report

2020 is the first year for the P500m Hall of Fame and Progress Register.  There is not yet a Roll of Honour for this Table.  Seventy-seven people have been recorded for the final edition for 2020, as well as one deceased peak-bagger who features in the Hall of Fame.

The P500m category has been introduced in Baggers without Borders as complementary, or an alternative, to P600m.

In the Hall, the most notable peak-bagging totals were achieved by Brian Kalet and Josef Nuernberger, with nearly 250 new peaks each, using their Large Country Exemption from the 10% foreign peaks rule.  Rob Woodall and Deividas Valaitis climbed over 100 peaks.  Six in the Table, all living in the USA, managed to add over fifty peaks.  With limited opportunities for climbing new P500m peaks in their own country, and restrictions on leaving it, those living in the UK generally achieved low P500m bag-total counts in 2020.  Peak-baggers in mainland Europe, Canada and the USA had more room for manoeuvre and achieved higher counts.

The first person to qualify for the Hall is Barbara Lilley, who secured her retrospective place in 1968.  Oscar Argudo and Nick Down were the only persons to enter the Hall in 2020.  Keith Anderson , who entered the Hall in 2007, had the most notable peak for his 150th P500m – Kilimanjaro 5895m, P5885m.

Twenty-four Awards have been achieved - Gold by two people, Silver by six, and Bronze by sixteen people.
