HoFMeisters’ Report
It is good to report ongoing interest in climbing mountains in this list of the Top 100 most prominent mountains in the world. There are now 47 members of the table, continuing the year- on- year upward trend. Six hills on this challenging list were bagged in 2024 by David Hart, Brian Kalet, Richard Mclellan, Denise McLellan and Steven Song.
Deividas Valaitis has made the fastest table ascent with nine list ascents in 2024. These included several country highpoints such as Yushan P3951m in Taiwan, Mount Stanley P3924m in Uganda/Congo, Khuiten Peak P2324m in Mongolia and Kinabalu P4085m in Malaysia, Mount Ararat P3611m in Turkey, as well as Kilimanjaro P4157m in Tanzania.
We welcome five new Hall entrants: Alastair Govan, Travis Greiman, Craig Jagow, Serge Massad and Connor McEntee. We hope you enjoy being part of this bagging community. Travis and Serge receive Bronze Awards as well. Â
We have a new name in first place- well done to David Hart, now with 53 ascents, joining Petter Bjorstad as the second person to achieve a Gold Award. He has spanned the continents in 2024 with ascents including Gunnbjorn Fjeld P3694m in Greenland, Gora Beluka P3343m Russia/ Kazakhstan, Mount Apo P2954m in the Philippines, Pik Talghar P2982m in Kazakhstan, Mount Ararat P3611m in Turkey and Ojos del Salado P3685m in Chile/Argentina. Â
Eric Gilbertson (35 ascents) has received a Silver Award, following a consistently impressive set of climbs in all seasons with comprehensive publicly shared accounts. These included two ascents with surveying equipment of Mount Rainer P4028m, which revealed a new location for a (lower) summit, due to ice melt.
Five new Bronze Awards have been gained for a lifetime ascent total of listed hills greater than 20. In addition to Travis (20) and Serge (26) above, congratulations are offered to Casey McCoy (20), Richard Mclellan (23) and Steven Song (23).
Most of the individuals named have also notched up achievements in the other Halls of Fame as well, showing significant levels of effort, skill and determination. Â
