HoFMeister’s Report
Adam asked me to write his report for 2024.
There were over 600 ascents by BwB members of P1500m peaks across the world in 2024, showing how the Ultras remain one of the most notable mountain lists for international peak-baggers.
Seventy-seven people have been recorded in the P1500m Table for 2024, and seven deceased peak-baggers - three in the Hall of Fame and four in the Roll of Honour. Sixteen people in the Table added at least ten new Ultras, with Deividas Valaitis (again) (+61) and David Hart (+50) achieving the most notable numbers. Petter Bjørstad remains our leading Ultra peak-bagger, with his pace hardly faltering, but others, with youth on their side, may eventually overtake him.
It proved to be a successful year for Awards. We congratulate Rob Woodall as the second holder of an Emerald Award, and Richard Mclellan and David Hart as third and fourth for the Gold Award. Steven Song, who Adam picked out last year as one to watch, has now added a Silver Award to his collection. Congratulations, Steven! We also congratulate our two new Bronze Award holders – Andy Martin and Josef Nuernberger. There are now two holders of the Emerald Award, four with Gold, nine with Silver and thirty-five with Bronze.
We also welcome seven new Hall members – Dave Golias, Joel Wilner and Michel W, and BwB newcomers Serge Massad, Craig Jagow, Travis Greiman and Catherine Boniface.
For 2025, there appears to be one likely Hall entrant, if he continues at his current rate. Jude N managed 14 new Ultras in 2024, putting him well within reach for next year.
