Negative Space Leafs

In class, we had to make negative space drawings using leaves. Then we had to fill in the negative space with designs and patterns. In this project, I decided that I would do more with patterns than trying to fill in all the white space. So I did pointillism which is doing tons of little dots to make a picture. And I also hid messages in the dots. Like Hirschfeld did with his daughter's name Nina. Some of the words you can find are art and Everett.

The materials that I used to make this were mainly markers and sharpies. The reason, I used these is that I had already worked with colored pencils and paint before so I decided to try makers this time around. And I used sharpies to outline the leaf edges.

My favorite thing about this project was coming up with what to do with the dots when I had started plopping them down. I also liked making the outline and trying to size it up just right with the original picture. My least favorite thing that happened as I did this was when the ink smudged a little I tried to cover it up, with more dots but that made it only worse.
