20x21
For this project, I spent around an hour trying to gauge and get the shape a look of a leaf from one of our plants in the hallway of our house. The plant leafs are quite large with several extentions on each side of the leaf. It features a very dark to semi bright green with a dark outline around the side. I tried to base it off the presepective that I saw which was from the a side to top down look onto it. From there I really wanted to make the leaf pop so I added in a bright to dark red background. This I feel really made the image standout and also allowed me to activate the space behind the leaf rather than leaving it blank.
The materials that I used were pencils to get the starting out line of the design which I then filled in with a mix of pastels. To make the leaf itself I used mainly green, brown, maroon, and blue. From there I mixed the colors together with my hand trying to keep the outline and then evetually started on the background of the image. Which I just used red through out and progressivly marked in.
I feel that for doing this in a short amount of time it came out decent enough I feel I could have done better at balancing the leaf however feel that the color I tried to get it pretty true to tone. I also think making the background red rather than leaving it blank was a smart choice since it allowed for more contrast between images.
