In class, we worked on our Donate To Life designs. I was sick for most of the project which caused me to have to do it in a shorter time frame. But the design that I came up with I am happy with. I think the waterfall came out really well and the ripples in the water add to the feeling. I also like how the image is lifted from the paper because I layered so much paint. It made the water fall look really glossy and that added to the look of the water. The background I just painted blue and dotted it with the brush to add texture but kept the colors neutral so not to take away from the waterfall. Then I added in a tree to create foreground for the image so that it seemed a little more three demential than just being a bunch of blue.
The materials I used were mainly acrylic paints and pencils to get my finished product. I first used pencils to draw a quick outline of my basic idea. I then went over it with a bunch of paint. It was hard to mix because the blue I wanted for the water fall had to be a good mix of blue and white to make it look like water. I was also difficult to get the ripples in the water without making it look bad. There were a few mistakes I had to cover up with paint but I still worked my way around them and made them blend with the work.
This project I feel was much better than the one I made last year. I put a lot more time into this one and I think it showed that I had. I think I could have improved on the background a bit more maybe added some brush or rocks to add more depth. My favorite part of this work is the ripples in the water I think it adds so well to the piece and just came out really strong.
