Sustained Investigation One

12x10

For my first Sustained Investigation addressed my question of how can I create works that use text and typography in ways that emphasize meaning, communication, and expression in various forms of media? For my first work I focused on using words to represent certain things that these object possess or ways in which they intereact with each other. I really focused my colors to try and match the emotion that I thought the work had both through what the words were repersenting. A lot of this idea was inspired by the book 1984 more in the theme and look of the piece and how the work looks like a dystopian setting.

The way in which I made this was a mix of Photoshop to fit images and Illustrator to draw and produce the main body of the work. From there I mainly drew and used basic shapes and masks to finish the rest of the work off. Then also hunted for fonts and type faces that I thought fit the piece the best and showed both power and struggle.

I feel that this piece came out pretty strong and encompasses the emotion and understanding that I want the viewer to get from it. As well as the the emotion that I want captured from the colors and bleakness of the foreground. The one thing that I may address in the future with it is adding more text I feel that I may be able to fit more words into it.
