#2 Sustained Investigation

Pg1 12x12

Outside of class, I worked on my second sustained investigation which was "How can I used collage to create nature through texture and form." This time instead of making a landscape I made an octopus. The reason being that I found the form of the octopus very interesting and the color paper I had also fit with the color of the octopus really nicely. I cut out a bunch of circles to make the main shape of the octopus then just out rectangles and hexagons for the background of the scene.

The materials that I used were cut paper and pencils. I drew the basic shape of the octopus then from there started placing circles inside of my drawing then layered it as I went building a 3D effect with the paper. Then I added in the background layering that with gray hexagons and green rectangles for kelp. The design I feel is pretty strong with the octopus structure being basic but complex at the same time.

My favorite part of this project was making the tentacles I just think they came out really strong as well as making the kelp. I think I could have made a more complex background but did not because I did not want to take away from the octopus.
