Duck Stamp

12x9

I had to create a duck for the Maine Junior Duck Stamp competition for this project. For the past four years, I have chosen the same duck, the King Eider. Every year, I decided to see if I had shown growth with my art. I also chose it because I love the colors and look of the face. I feel the color selection as the reflection in the water looks perfect. However, I do think that the face colors of King Eider could have been better, mainly with the bill of the duck and the back part of the head.

I used a mix of pencils for the outline—Gouache and Acrylic paint which I mixed. I then tried matching colors with both paints and selected where I would use the mixture of both paints and use Gouache. Both paints were primarily used for the background and water as they made it look a lot more textured and moving.

I feel this project came out pretty well in the future, and I would want to take maybe another crack at doing the head since it came out not perfectly how I wanted it. However, I am proud of the overall look of the duck itself and the background texturing and coloring.
