For class, we had to do blind counter drawings. I first started by drawing a head and then had to draw a hand. I decided to add another hand to add to this person I was building. Since the head came out more realistic than I thought, I decided to use a ruler to draw straight lines to create borders for the colors. I then went over the pencil with a pen to strengthen the lines and make the image pop more. I struggled with an idea for this project, so I decided making a person out of very bright contrasting colors could look really interesting. Creating this work did not take too long; the hard part was pushing the color on every square. The colors that I used were inspired by Rothko and his color choice just for how bold and contrasting they usually are.
The materials that I used were colored pencils, HB pencils, and colored pencils. I first started by making my outline by staring at my hand and face and trying my best to draw it. From there, I went over the lines in pen and then made more borders to seal the color. Adding color was the last step, and trying to push the value.
My favorite part of this project was bringing the whole project together with these very messy-looking lines. The hardest part was trying not to look at what I was doing and pushing the value of color.
