Beautiful Oops

I created this work because the smug that I got on my paper looked a lot like an ear of an animal. The animal I decided to paint was a bear because that is what the ear looked like to me. The setting of my work is in a wildfire then I painted the background with bright oranges and yellows because I did not want to paint another animal in the woods. And when I went to California it really made me think about the wildfires that are raging through the state. Also by using these bright background colors it really made the bear pop out. The reason I decided to use acrylics instead of using other coloring options is that it was easier to shade in the background and the bear. Also, I just like how acrylics look overall I think they look good and they were helpful for getting rid of any white space on my paper.

The first technique I used was I outlined the bear's general shape then filled it in slowly. The second technique I used was getting a base of orange down as my background so I could later fill it up with yellows and different colors of orange and red. My project evolved from having greens and browns in my background to oranges and yellows. I also evolved the head shape and the browns I used to paint the bear. The one thing that I revised was the eye I had just a black dot then I added a bit of white to it. The story behind this artwork is that I got inspired by the bears then I remembered how the wildfires are burning through the countryside in California and that is what gave me this idea. My project does not relate much to my life I painted it because it was an event going on in the world and I was just in California.
